What is HMPA water?

Short answer

HMPA water is drinking water with added HMPA, a nearly tasteless compound from fermented rice bran that is studied for its effect on visceral fat. The category began in Japan with Suntory Tokusui in October 2025. Get Waisted is HMPA water made for India: a 330 mL can with a lab report for every batch.

Why put HMPA in water?

Because you can't taste it. When Suntory was developing Tokusui, it screened about 50 candidate ingredients and picked HMPA because it is almost tasteless, odourless and colourless (ASCII.jp). That means no sugar or flavouring to cover a bitter taste. It still tastes like water, because it is.

Where HMPA water started

Suntory launched Tokusui (特水) in Japan on 21 October 2025: 600 mL, 23 mg of HMPA, ¥150 before tax. It's sold as a Food with Function Claims product that helps reduce visceral fat in people with a higher BMI.

How to choose an HMPA water

  1. Milligrams on the label. Look for HMPA stated per serve, close to the 23 mg that was studied.
  2. A batch lab report. Ideally from an accredited lab, and ideally one you can read without asking.
  3. No added sugar. The point of HMPA in water is that it doesn't need any.
  4. Honest claims. Be wary of anything promising weight loss. The evidence is about visceral fat, and it's early.
  5. Pack. Cans keep light and air out and are recycled more easily than plastic.

Questions people ask

Is HMPA water just water?

Almost. It is drinking water with a small amount of added HMPA, about 23 mg a serve. HMPA is nearly tasteless, so it tastes like plain water.

Is HMPA water available in India?

Not yet on shelves. Get Waisted is HMPA water made for India; Batch 001 is in lab testing and you can join the waitlist on our homepage.

How much HMPA water should I drink a day?

One serve a day matches the 23 mg a day used in the human study. There's no evidence that drinking more HMPA does anything extra.

Does HMPA water have sugar or calories?

HMPA water doesn't need sugar because HMPA has almost no taste. Get Waisted is water and HMPA, and the final nutrition panel will be printed on the can.

Is canned water better than bottled water?

Cans block light and air, chill quickly and aluminium recycles repeatedly without losing quality. That's why Get Waisted comes in a can rather than PET.
